Road to Sweden

With Graeme back at the wheel we headed to Sweden. Crossing from Narvik on the west coast of Norway to Tore on the east coast of Sweden all in one day. The mountains ran out as did the snow, the roads became straighter and wider, birch trees and lakes became the dominant feature on the landscape and we were able to, at last, afford to buy a coffee.
We arrived on the coast to find that the Swedish are not as accommodating as the Norwegians in letting you park overnight anywhere (within reason.) Having been asked to move on from what seemed like a concrete parking bay by a derelict cement works we found a marginally nicer spot with a few other vans overlooking the motorway. The next day we left the park early to make our way to Umea and the ferry to Finland. After the dramatic Norwegian landscape the straight, tree lined roads become rather repetitive so after an hour we decided to turn off the main road for a coffee stop. We drove 3km down a quiet road which became a track, eventually opening out onto a beautiful idyll beside a still lake with trees, wooden picnic tables and chairs and glorious sunshine. We had a belated breakfast, sat in the sunshine and enjoyed the peace, birdsong and views before, reluctantly, getting back onto the road.
