Nothern Holland

Leaving the fishy delights of Delft, we headed to Friesland in the north of Holland and the tiny lakeside village of Oudega. There is always a mixture of excitement and apprehension when arriving at a new campsite. The main concerns are poor facilities and overcrowding. Clean, warm, spacious toilets and showers become rather a preoccupation and as time passes we find much of our conversation includes the state of the site lavatories. Happiness is reduced to spotless loos and hot showers.
The campsite at Oudega was very welcoming, friendly and very helpful which was just as well as for the second time this trip we got stuck on the pitch. A whole group of men appeared carrying mats to put under the wheels but to no avail. Fortunately, one camper had a huge 4×4 truck which was able to pull us out of the mud and onto firmer ground. Feeling very embarrassed we thanked all the men and gave the guy who pulled us out a bottle of wine from our dwindling cellar. Good news the facilities were clean and the Wifi strong. What more does one want in this world?
