King’s Day in Amsterdam

April 27^th is King Willem-Alexander of the Netherlands official birthday and is celebrated each year with parties, street markets, concerts and special events for the royal family. It is a big celebration in Holland and the partying is taken very seriously. The House of Orange was in evidence throughout Amsterdam with every one wearing something orange and in some cases only orange. Boats with wild parties and loud music sailed along the canals and the streets were full of pop up bars, stalls and food stands. We decided to ditch the bikes and just wandered around soaking up the atmosphere, which after a while had a very pungent aroma!
