Today we spent the morning with Anne Frank and the afternoon with Van Gogh. Both very moving exhibitions. The impact of the Anne Frank museum was in its meagreness and the story played out in these bare rooms. Apparently when the families were arrested the rooms were stripped of all furniture. Otto Frank, Anne’s father who survived the war and subsequently worked with curators setting up the museum, did not want the furniture replaced but for the rooms to remain empty. Ironically we were visiting on the day that Naz Shah was suspended from the labour party for alleged anti-semitic comments.
The Van Gogh museum is beautiful and the contents more so. The potato eaters I think is my favourite painting, but so many to choose from.
