Camargue.

dscf4460 In the Camargue, rather than a vineyard, we stayed at a stable just outside Saintes-Maries De-La-Mer. The stables were full of the white Camargue horses, which are everywhere and allow tourists to share in the fantasy of being a gaucho in this wide landscape. The main beasts in abundance, however, were the flies and mosquitoes Happily the discomfort caused by these irritating insects dissolves in the face of the beauty of the landscape with the widest possible open spaces and huge skies. Our pitch faced west and the evening sun setting over the flamingo filled waters was flipping fabulous!

Being completely flat the cycling was excellent. Miles of bike tracks through the watery plains spotting bulls, flamingos and the ubiquitous white horses. During one cycle we past miles of golden sands and empty beaches. On our way back we took advantage of one deserted beach and despite a long trek to the sea went skinny dipping in the warm Mediterranean sea. Probably not a pleasant thought for anyone reading this but a most pleasing experience for us!img_2563-2img_20160926_131803
